Play Chess!

Cambridge Chess Club (the 'City Club') meets on Wednesday evenings at St. Augustine's Church Hall. The meetings start at 7.30pm. We aim to offer both casual and serious chess for players of all standards.

You will find more information, including where we meet and when, on the About Us pages.

New Visitors

If you've not visited us before, you can find out all about who we are and what we do on the About Us pages. New visitors to the club are always welcome. Feel free to drop by unannounced; usually there's someone who's up for a friendly game. (See the 'Play Chess!' box for details.)

This Week at the Club

On Wednesday night this week (13th August 2008), we're organising a time handicapped rapidplay competition. The principle is simple: the better player you are, the less time you get to think. In fact you generously donate some of your thinking time to your opponent. This has been a popular format at the club for many years, and it's a great way of creating a competitive yet fun evening for players of all standards.

Why not pop along for a friendly game? Just turn up and find yourself someone to play against! If you arrive after 19:30 and find everyone absorbed in a game - as can happen, especially when we're all playing against the clock - then just take seat and someone will come over and say hello as soon as possible.
