2008 Summer Calendar

Published 25th July 2008

The summer holidays are here, and every Wednesday at 7:30pm Cambridge City Chess Club has a variety of events to entertain and amuse you. The first series of events on the calendar is the Rapidplay Grand Prix Tournament. Players will be paired against one another depending on availability on the night. The winner will be player who makes the best percentage from two out of the three evenings. This flexibility allows participants to have one week off and still challenge for the title! If you can only make one night, please come and play anyway. Junior chess club members are welcome to attend.

Chess Variants Evening

Paul Kemp has kindly agreed to organise an evening during which we will experience versions of chess which have unorthodox rules. An evening of fantasy and confusion in equal measure, and a great opportunity to beat the 'good' players at the club!

13th August

Time-Handicap Rapidplay Tournament

The better player you are, the less time you get to think. In fact you generously donate some of your thinking time to your opponent. This has been a popular format at the club for many years; it is a great way of creating a competitive yet fun evening for players of all standards.

20th August

Buzzer Tournament

The rules are simple: when the buzzer sounds, you have to move! And once you get into the rhythm it's a lot easier than you'd think, and no desperate time-scrambles either.

27th August

Club Championship - Round 1

Club Championship Dates for the first rounds of the have been planned, and we hope players will try and attend these. For those on holiday on these dates, don't despair, there will be flexibility to arrange games outside of these evenings so please enter the Championship. The remaining rounds will be announced once the league fixtures are announced. More details to follow.
