4th April Chess Training Session

Rook & Pawn Endings

On Wednesday 4th April, we will continue our chess training sessions with a look at rook and pawn endings courtesy of Mike Bradley.

We hope to cover: the essentials of the simpler R+P endings; evaluating more complex positions by understanding their key elements; and reducing games to a known simple position. Even grandmasters sometimes get it wrong!

The evening will be divided into two sections, one theoretical (techniques for handling R+P v R, R v P, R v 2p, etc.) and the other practical (using some of our own games to discuss strategy, position evaluation and handling).

We will attempt to run through up to three end games played by people at club where they can explain their thought processes, and we could look at why another approach would have worked better. If opinions are divided, we might event split people into two camps and play it out as a group challenge!

The event is free and open to all. It starts at 19:30.
