Cambridgeshire Grand Prix

Published 17th September 2008

The Cambridgeshire County Chess Association is running a Grand Prix this year, with a trophy as a prize for the winner. Points scored in Grand Prix events will be aggregated, and the highest point-scorer at the end of the season will be the winner.

There is no need to enter, nor is there any entry fee. Just play in a qualifying event, and your scores will be collated and shown on the Association’s website, updated monthly.

The qualifying events are:

  • County matches (East Anglian group and final stages)

  • Cambridgeshire League

  • Cambridgeshire Rapidplay

  • Team 500 Competition

  • The East Anglian Club Championship

The Fenland Cup and County Championship have not been included as they are on a knockout basis, and this may unfairly disadvantage some players.

For 2008/09 there will be just one section, rather than several sections according to grading. However this should not disadvantage lower-graded players who will tend to play opponents of similar standard. Indeed, as they are more likely to play in the Team 500 competition they may well benefit.

So play in as many events as you can, and see your score mount up!
