Summer Events

Published 22nd March 2009

Cambridge City Chess Club have already started to plan our summer events. After Easter, the local leagues and our 2008 - 2009 club championship will be finishing, but please don't think that you'll have to spend all summer with no chess! We'll be organsing the popular Rapidplay evenings and looking for volunteers to coordinate various fun evenings and coaching sessions, not to mention starting our 2009 - 2010 club championship later in the summer. There are also two new proposals to whet your appetite:

Summer Swiss

In order to enjoy some long-play chess over the summer, we are proposing to organise a Swiss tournament from June to September. We will have five rounds with about three weeks in which each games must be played or a bye taken. The games will be graded - which should help new players get grades over the summer months. The suggested dates are:

  • Round 1: 3rd June - 17th June
  • Round 2: 24th June - 8th July
  • Round 3: 15th July - 29th July
  • Round 4: 5th August - 19th August
  • Round 5: 26th August - 9th September

Bedford Chess Club Friendly

In order to play some new opposition, we are hoping to organise a friendly match against Bedford chess club. We go there this season, and they come to us next season.

There will be more details coming soon, but to express your interest or ask any questions about either the Summer Swiss or the Bedford Chess Club Friendly, please contact Will Stimpson directly or email Lee Chapman at info@cambridgechess.org.uk who will pass on your message.
