Cambridge City Chess Club - 2010 Town v Gown
Match Report
Cambridge University built on last year's performance and scored another victory in this year's Town v Gown match. Contested over 20 boards, Camb Univ fielded five players from the 2010 Varsity team, and while the Town team did look a bit stronger than last year, they failed to take enough points from the top University players. After round one, the University established a very convincing 13½ - 6½ lead; apart from a Town victory on board 1, all the top board victories went to the Univ, while the lower half of the match was very evenly contested. The Town made a better effort in the second round, but the Univ still won narrowly 11 - 9 assuring themselves a comfortable victory in the 9th Town v Gown.
My thanks to everyone who took part and once again for making the Town v Gown such an enjoyable event.
